Use Google Assistant to type with your voice (2024)

You can dictate text through your voice with Assistant voice typing on Gboard. Punctuation is automatically added as you speak. While you dictate with your voice, you can also tap on your keyboard to type, even if the mic is still on. The text that you speak stays on your device and isn't sent to Google servers.

If you use multiple languages, Assistant voice typing can now automatically detect your spoken language, seamlessly available on Pixel 8+ (coming soon to Pixel 7). With your Assistant voice typing mic, you can find the new 'Language tag' that shows the language that was detected as you speak. You can always switch languages manually by switching to the relevant language keyboard.

Tip: Language tag displays the language you speak while using the Google Assistant typing mic.
